R2: The Rice Review, Rice’s premier undergraduate literary magazine,
is currently accepting fiction, creative nonfiction, and poetry
submissions for our Spring 2013 issue.
DEADLINE: DEC 14th at 5:00 pm
NOTE: The deadline has been extended until Monday, Dec. 17th at noon.
1st PLACE, EACH GENRE: $500
2nd PLACE, EACH GENRE: $250
Send pieces to R2RiceReview@gmail.com (limit of 3 fiction pieces, 3 creative
nonfiction pieces and 5 poems per person)
IMPORTANT FORMATTING NOTE:
Please send each item as a separate file with filename matching the piece’s title
Submission Information: Please include your piece title and genre in the subject line of the e-mail. Include your full name in the e-mail body.
Important: Please do not put your name on your manuscript(s)!
Format: All submissions should be typed and should follow, as closely as possible, the MLA format (with your name omitted). In particular, all pages should be one-sided, in 12-pt. Times New Roman font, with page numbers in the top-right corner. Prose submissions should be double-spaced. Margins should be 1 inch on all sides.
These format guidelines are to keep the selection process as unbiased as possible. If your submissions are formatted differently, and our editors recognize a shared author, your writing may be at a disadvantage (since our editors tend to diversify the authors in each publication). However, if any of these format guidelines conflict with your piece’s intended appearance, by all means give your artistic vision precedence!
Students may submit in multiple genres. A student may submit at most 5 poems, 3 fiction pieces, and 3 creative nonfiction pieces.
E-mail submissions should be sent individually to R2RiceReview@gmail.com. Each submission should include the piece’s title and genre in the subject line, as well as the information requested in the submission form (see above) in the e-mail body.
Alternatively, you can deliver hard-copy submissions to the English Department R2 mailbox on the second floor of Herring Hall, or by campus mail at:
R2 Rice Review
Department of English

Students will be notified by e-mail and, if selected, will be asked to provide an electronic copy of the selected piece(s). Manuscript(s) will not be returned.
